Not to get too artistic over the matter, but there’s a bunch of golden leaves, conkers, and pumpkin spice lattes kicking about outdoors right now – and it’s inspiring hair dyeing. Sure, copper-toned hair is no ‘new trend’, but as colour technology advances each year, the shade selection expands (as does the vibrancy). With “Amber Slate” an upcoming trend for 2019 – as called out by Wella Hair Professionals – now’s a great time to go all-out red.
As for maintenance; red pigment is sensitive to light (especially when it’s coloured), so protect your locks from the sun where possible – probably not a problem right now, but crack out the bobble hat to shield from the winter sun, regardless. Water can dull your colour too, as well as over-treating with products, so ease off heavy shampooing. Try cutting down to two washes a week, and finish with a burst of icy water. Sure, it feels a little torturous, but will seal the cuticle to preserve your colour for longer. That’ll wake you up in the morning.
As for the colour selection, there are a fair few shades of red to go for. From zesty copper, to rich scarlet, we’ve pulled some inspiration together for you right here. Go on, try it, ‘autumn’ is your excuse (or celebrating the arrival of the ginger emoji to iPhone – YES Apple).
