We keep talking about lockdown’s biggest hair trends – pink hair, buzzcuts, those no-heat curls you do with tights (revolutionary)- but, let’s be honest, grown-out roots are the number one. Whether we like it or not. Embracing them actually looks pretty darn great but, if that’s not your thing, these hairstyles will help to hide them.

1 Messy parting
A straight, centre-parting is Public Enemy No. 1 when it comes to root regrowth, as it brings them straight into focus. A messy parting breaks up that stripe of darker hair, making it less noticeable. It’s easy to do too. When your hair is wet, brush it back and then use your fingers (instead of a brush or comb) to find a natural, less-defined parting.

2 Side parting
Switching to a side parting is an easy win. It moves the roots away from the centre of the face (the area we focus on most). If you’re going for that big, blown-out look, add volume by styling your hair in the middle first. When you flip it to the side, blast the new parting with your hairdryer in the direction you want hair to sit to keep it in place.

3 Waves and curls
While sleek, straight styles are perfect when you’re training your hair, they’re not the best for camouflaging roots. Volume and texture break up the harsh lines of the roots, making them look more blended. Use straighteners or a curling wand to add texture. Not a fan of heat-styling? Try those heat-free curls we keep going on about.

4 Up-do (with lots of volume)
he key to an updo is adding volume. Spray your hair with plenty of texture spray before. If you’re going for a ponytail, tease the hair around your crown then scrape it into a pony. Once it’s fixed with a hair tie, use your fingers to loosen sections. Lift up the top half of your ponytail and backcomb the underneath. If in doubt, just do a messy bun (need that printed on a t-shirt).
